Lyra Catherine McKee was a journalist from Northern Ireland who wrote for several publications about the consequences of the Troubles. She also served as an editor for Mediagazer, a news aggregator website. On 18 April 2019, McKee was fatally shot during rioting in the Creggan area of Derry.
Three men and a teenage boy have been arrested over the Derry riots where journalist Lyra McKee was killed. The Police Service of Northern Ireland(PSNI) said the suspects, aged 15, 18, 38 and 51, were arrested on Thursday morning under terror laws.The New IRA admitted carrying out Ms McKee’s murder.
Footage showed Molotov cocktails being launched at police vehicles and cars being set on fire in the street, before a hooded man opened fire with a handgun.
Detective Superintendent Jason Murphy said,’ I have believe that some people within the community know what happen and who was involved”. “I understand people may be frightened to talk to us,” he added.
He urged anyone with any mobile phone footage from the night Ms McKee to contact police via the PSNI’s Major Incident Public Portal.
